If you visit Colonia de Sant Jordi, in the municipality of Ses Salines, we recommend that you don’t leave without taking a walk among the beautiful llauts (typical Majorcan boats) that sit peacefully on the water at this port.

Services at the Port of Colonia de Sant Jordi
Colonia de Sant Jordi Port is one of many special places that you will find just a few metres away from Hotel Colonial. Starting from the Heladería del Colonial ice-cream parlour, walk along the street Calle Gabriel Roca and you will reach the port in just a few minutes. On the same street, just next to the port, you will find lots of services and amenities, which will be of particular interest if you love the sea and water sports. Boat hire, motorboat trips, diving lessons…
The first thing you’ll see when you get to the port is a large landscaped garden area with a children’s playground, which your little ones will love. Just opposite this you will find some of the nicest terraces in the port area.
At the bottom of the garden area, there is the start of a pedestrianised promenade which is home to most of the best bars, restaurants, terraces and shops in the area. This promenade runs through the port towards the famous Playa des Port beach. But before going any further, you will find one of the best activities in this part of the island of Majorca.
Trips to Cabrera Island
Among the gardens in the Port of Colonia de Sant Jordi, you will find the Tourist Information Office, where you can get plenty of information or pick up a map of the region. But you will also see little wooden huts offering famous trips to the smallest island in the Balearic archipelago: Cabrera. All of the boats that do daily trips to the island of Cabrera leave from the Port of Colonia de Sant Jordi, as it is the closest port to Cabrera. If you have a day to fit in this trip, we highly recommend it.
The most typical trip includes a return ticket on one of the ferries to the island, with two compulsory stops. The first stop gives you the opportunity for an unforgettable swim in the incredible blue cave, which gets its name from the intense colour of its waters. And at the second stop, you can hop off the boat at the picturesque port of Cabrera, where you will have free time to discover some of its marvellous sights, such as the castle, restaurant or beach by the port.
Es Port Beach
As we have already mentioned, some of the port is pedestrianised, creating a very pleasant promenade where you will find most of the area’s bars and restaurants. There is everything from cocktail bars to places where you can taste an award-winning burger, fresh fish restaurants with speciality paellas…
The most popular terraces are the ones found at the end of Playa des Port beach – we recommend getting there early or, even better, reserving a table to ensure you’re not disappointed.
Playa des Port is a small urban beach, with white sand and calm waters, making it the perfect place for refreshments in Colonia de Sant Jordi. It is a very family-friendly beach due to its convenience being so close to the port. At this beach you can hire kayaks, motorboats, paddle boards or pedalos.
There is a footpath from this beach that will take you to the nearby Playa Es Dolç.
Fishing port in Colonia de Sant Jordi
We’ve saved one of our favourite itineraries for last. Lose yourself among the fishing llauts, traditional boats sitting peacefully in their moorings. To get there, we recommend walking from Playa Es Port beach, through the docks and out to the lighthouse at the port entrance.
If you take a walk through this area just before sunset in the summer, you will see the fishing boats come into the port with their daily catch. Right at the end of the jetty for the port’s fuel filling station, you will see the lighthouse marking the entrance to the port, from which you can enjoy outstanding views of Colonia de Sant Jordi, Playa del Dolç beach and the islet of Na Guardia.
We recommend visiting this spot at sunset, as the colours of the sea, the sky and the twinkling lights of the port are mesmerising in this paradise island setting.
